you know those stories you hear where food is low and people are told to chew their food 50 times before swallowing? that's how i feel right now. taking what i've got and stretching it out to make it last longer. i'm around bite 30 now. it's gotten pretty damn repetitive and flavorless. can't i just swallow and shit it out already?

so, i did the google puzzle contest today. besides the test being really damn hard (considering the time limit), the answer submission page was hammered. so, my answers didn't get submitted until 27 minutes after deadline. and, of course, there's a 10 point penalty for each minute late. good to know that their lack of bandwidth cost me more points than i solved.

so, you've got a WeakReference to some object. you remove all strong references to the object. you'd think the object would go away. but it doesn't until the next scheduled garbage collection. so, for that small window, the WeakReference can still access the object. that's bad.
what's worse is that calling the garbage collector yourself immediately after freeing the object seems like the only way to solve this.
well, the other solution is to have all the objects and refs listen for an event and have them clean themselves up. but that's even worse. and insane.
i just want a pointer. really. that's all.

Fifteen hours ago, I watched the sun set to my right. Now, I just watched the sun rise to my left. It's probably the sleep dep talking, but sitting here in my chair, I feel like the sun moved, not me. damn relativity. on that note, i recently read an article that stated that gravity moves at the same speed as light. that really baffles me because i've never thought of gravity as something that moves. again, damn relativity.
time has not been on my side as of late. i'm heading to cambridge, ma for a spam conference. hoping to present some stuff there. so much to do in preparation. i'll sleep next week. i think i'm going to check out Manray while I'm out there.
anyway, i may as well write more sql while i'm still coherent.
